Letting Her Go - Diary of Sangita

Unspoken Words

Letting Her Go

'Let's divorce!!' - he said handing the divorce papers to her. 'I have signed it all you need to do is just sign and we are officially over' he said without a hint of affection. He talked like a robot. She didn't feel anything as well. She was more or less like some kind of robot herself. More than being sad she was angry. She didn't know why he was divorcing her. She started thinking about the reasons for him to leave her after ten years of marriage. 'Was she not good enough for him?' or 'is he having an affair?'. He was looking at her and knew what was going in her mind. 'You were not only good but the best a person like me can have as a wife and no I m not having any affairs'. She looked at him with weary eyes and thought about the fact that he could still read her mind. 'Why do you want a divorce then?' she asked focusing on the issue. 'Do you remember when was the last time you said those three words to me?' or 'do you remember the last time we had a conversation? And conversation doesn't mean me asking the questions and you answering yes or no!' - he asked. She didn't speak.

Even though they were living in same house, sharing bed everything but there was a huge distance between them. Things were not always like this between them. Ironically their marriage was a love marriage. They started off as being best friends. They didn't know when a mere friendship grew to love. He knew every corners of her. Good or bad he literally knew everything. For the first time he was not happy about this because he knew that she was not happy with him. He hated himself for this but he couldn't deny the truth. 'I can't see you like this', he broke the long silence. 'You are no longer the person that I know, the talkative, fun loving, spontaneous, person that you used to be is lost somewhere and I can't seem to find a single trace of her in you', he sadly said. His every word was stabbing her very heart but it was the truth. And no matter how much she denied the fact she couldn't. Yes, she was a whole new person now, a person whom even she herself couldn't identify. She has changed, drastically changed. There was no love in her. She was indeed falling out of love. She was forcing herself to love him which he knew more than she did and it was clearly killing her inside out.

'I am losing my grip, I can't see you turning to a person whom you also can't recognize', 'I love you and will always do but I don't see your love for me anymore'. She just nodded because whatever he said was true to every word. She was not happy; she always felt some kind of emptiness in her which even his love couldn't fill. She didn't even know when she started feeling like that. She was living just for the sake of living and loving him was also started being like a part of that repetitive cycle and she was getting tired of it. 'Don't think I am tired of you or anything like that I am just giving some time to yourself without any relationship hanging above your head', he said kneeling in front of her.

'So basically you're letting me go, giving me freedom??' she asked melancholy. 'Yes! you take some time to yourself, do what your heart desires, just live the way you want to as I can clearly see that this life is not what you want at the moment and if you ever think otherwise and want to come back than I will be right here waiting for you', he said with a hint of a sadness in his voice. 'What if I don't ever come back to you?', confusingly she asked. He smiled and said 'It's you to decide whether you want me in your life or not as for me I will be content in the fact with your any decision as long as it makes you happy'.

'What about your happiness?', 'Will you be able to move on without me?', she asked. 'My happiness is your happiness and about moving on you don't have to worry as I have got memories to last this lifetime. I rather won't be able to live on with you feeling so miserable with me', 'I would rather be one of your fond memories than to be a bitter present'.

Now it's been almost been a year since they separated. He regrets each and every day for letting her go but deep down he knows that whatever he did was right. She didn't get in touch with him after their separation. From what he heard from her friends was she went travelling. He just wished that she would be happy wherever she might be. But he did miss her a lot, so much that he worked each and every single day to keep his mind occupied. Sometimes it would but most of the times it wouldn't.

He would sometimes stare at the phone or sit in front of the computer waiting for an email from her. This was like a part of his life and it helped him to move on with the life without her but he was happy and content with the way things were. One fine day the phone rang. 'Hello!!' - he said. 'Did you miss me??', she said from the other side of the phone. There was a huge smile across his face as he answered, 'Yes I did......'.

P.S: Sometimes letting go is the right thing to do. Especially when the person whom you love, used to love you...
