Honest opinion - Diary of Sangita

Unspoken Words

Honest opinion

'How do I look?' this was the sixth or seventh time my younger sister was asking me for my opinion. To be honest it didn't look good at all. I wanted to say it right on her face that it was not looking good but I remembered last time when I gave my honest opinion to somebody. 'Couldn’t you just make up some lies just to make me feel better!', “you’re way too honest which is not good at all” that’s what I got in return for my so called honest opinion.

So, looking her for the (forgot the count) time I just nod my head and said 'OK'. That made her happy and off she went. Humans are so funny, they say that they want an honest opinion but deep down they just want to hear the answer what they want. Whether it’s 'OK' or 'Not OK' we should be able to read their minds and give our so called honest opinion to them. And the funniest thing in this entire drama is the fact that people who are suppose to give an honest answer are the same people bitching about the people whom they said looked like an angel only a minute ago. But I don’t blame them for being the backbiters they are as they are made by the people who want to hear only compliments about themselves so badly that they can never digest the truth. 'You are rude and impolite' that’s what I was called once for being the outspoken person that I am. I was also given a suggestion to act nice and to lie politely. For me good was good and bad was bad (and it still is) but after being labelled as that (rude and impolite) and was also sick of people giving me evil glares just because I stated the fact, I just changed the way I give my opinions in things now. If don’t like something than I go for a diplomatic option 'OK'. I guess it’s more or less like lying politely.

'Honesty is the best policy' – this saying is gone just like the honesty itself. 'Lie, cheat, steal' - this is the saying that goes with fashion these days. So, next time you ask for my honest opinion even if you look like some balloon that’s going to burst out any second in your new dress I will look at you, smile and say 'you look just OK'!!! And even after reading this if you don't get the meaning of 'OK' than you are definitely a clueless balloon which is about to burst. P.S: By the way when I ask for your honest suggestion I would also want to hear something good to my ears as I am human as well.
